International Centre for Environmental
Technologies (CITET).
Established
in 1996 under the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Hydraulic
Resources, the CITET aims to improve and strengthen the capacities of
Tunisia and other Arab-African and Mediterranean countries in the
fields of transfer, adaptation and promotion of environmental
friendly technologies. Sustainable development is at the heart of
CITET’s mission.
Its main objectives are the development of
national and regional skills and capacities concerning environmental
protection, natural resources’ management, and expertise on
environmental management technologies.These objectives are
accomplished through the following actions: facilitating the
adaptation, transfer and promotion of more efficient and ecological
technologies; providing technical assistance to industrial
enterprises and encouraging them to use cleaner and more
environmental friendly technologies; and making information and
knowledge on eco-technologies and natural resources’ preservation
available. CITET represents a real platform for cooperation in the
field of environmental protection. It creates and develops flows of
information, experience and know-how, facilitating the transfer of
cheaper technologies, better adapted to the geographic, climatic and
economic conditions prevailing in Tunisia and similar Arab, African
and Mediterranean countries. CITET seeks to develop new international
cooperation projects. The development of indigenous eco-technologies
is the great ambition of the Centre. Training constitutes a major
axis of its activities in order to develop the skills of Tunisian
managerial staff in the field of eco-technologies and to conclusively
prove the economic advantages of a cleaner production.
