One finds also corals and the giant patella, a rare mollusc in the Mediterranean. The island includes several natural sources and of the underwater caves. Cultural heritage
The principal island comprises a remarkable archaeological inheritance.
The preserved vestiges testify to very dense phases of occupation, at
the times punic, vandal and Byzantine. Traces of fortification in the
gulf of Onk Jemel and a tower of watchtower (dimension 271) testify
that the island was used as shield with the gulf of Carthage during the
military conflicts opposing the punic metropolis to the Greeks, then to
the Romans. The strategic position of the island seems to have been
determining during the conflict opposing the vandals to the Byzantines,
to believe of it the vestiges and the archaeological material collected
in the site of settlement and the zone of ancient damping. The vestiges
located on the small island of Zembretta belong to a late monument of
antiquity equipped with a cistern, in the not very distinct plan. It
could be a question of a monastic establishment of the end of
antiquity, place of exile of the bishop Victor de Tunnuna in 555
pennies the reign of Justinien.
