Islands of Zembra and Zembretta
Located administratively at the level of the Governorship of Nabeul, it park is in fact on the open sea the Mediterranean, accessible by the port from El Haouaria or that of Sidi Daoud, closest. It is the first national park creates in Tunisia by decree n° 77-340 of April 1st, 1977, classified Réserve of the Biosphere, by UNESCO, the same year.
The island of Zembra, 5.095 ha, largest of
both, is a triangular rock of form whose rock coast is made of abrupt
cliffs. Its point highest reached the 435 meters. But on the southern
part, a beautiful page of fine sand allows accosting on the small port.
The small island of Zembretta, is him of trapezoidal form of
approximately 400 meters of length and hardly 50 meters broad,
culminating with 53 meters.
Natural heritage:
Flora:
Meadows of 266 plant species there were counted. But there are few
trees, some olive-trees or of the genévrier of Phénicie, otherwise one
finds there mastic trees, heather, cane-apple bushes and other species
which do not exceed the two meters. But it is particularly interesting
to admire the groupings of dwarf palm trees which one can meet on the
site.
Terrestrial Fauna:
Relatively rich considering the surface of the
island, this fauna includes/understands the moufflon of Corsica, whose
some couples had been introduced into the years 1960. But one finds
also wild rabbit, only present on this island where it does not seem to
dig of burrow, but to be enough to live in the undergrowth.
