Chambi
National park
Located
at the level of the governorship of Kasserine, the national park of Chambi
covers 6.723 ha. It was created by decree n° 80-1607 of December 18th, 1980,
and protects the culminating point from Tunisia, belonging to the solid mass of
the Dorsal and, which reaches 1544 meters. The park is localized to 17 km in
the East of Kasserine, 35 km in the North of Feriana and 50 km in the South of
Thala.
The park was founded to protect mainly the gazelle from mountain,
gazelle of Vat. In 1977, the site had been indicated by UNESCO as a Reserve of
the Biosphere.
Natural heritage:
Flora:
The vegetation is characteristic of the area mountainous of the Dorsal,
one finds the genévrier of Phénicie, the pine of Alep and those among nearly
262 listed species.
Fauna:
It is adapted to the difficult conditions, with
the snow which covers the heights in winter. One often meets the wild boar,
which plays a big role in the ventilation of the grounds, that it does not
cease turning over in the search of germination and seeds. Nimbler, the gazelle
of the mountains is also characteristic of Chambi. The moufflon with cuffs was
reintroduced there, a few years ago. But one should not forget, the hyena
striped, the fox, the hare and the various birds which populate the national
park. Among L, avifauna one will quote: the partridge will gambra, the cross
nozzle of the pines, the peregrine falcon, the percnoptère of Egypt, the
Bonelli eagle or the sparrowhawk of Europe. - Several natural sources traverse
the park and feed its various recesses.
Cultural and accomodation heritage:
Important
ancient vestiges are there, quite visible, but remainders still on standby of
development: such as several presses with oil and old black leads used also
during the period of protectorate. Beautiful écomusée was arranged in height,
inside the park. It shelters a teaching exposure today. This building was
reinforced by installation at the entry of the park of a reception center which
will make it possible to the visitors to be restored and to rest before
approaching a visit of the park through the various paths of walk which are
arranged there. Enclosures make it possible to approach certain species of
moufflons and gazelles.
