Geology:The reliefs of the park constitute the last link towards the north of the Tunisian dorsal. The djebel Boukornine culminates with 576 meters. It is consisted Jurassic limestone outcrops resistant, folded and faulted. The peak dominating Borj-Cédria is made of grounds limestones and marly Cretaceous, less resistant as a whole
Approximately 150
million years ago, this area was under the sea level, from where the big number
of marine fossils which one discovers in the limestones layers of the djebel.
Cultural heritageHere also the Romans passed. We still find traces of the temple of Baal Saturn Balcarnansis and other ancient ruins; Popular tradition of visit of the source Ain Zarga in spring. Stamps: in 1998, four postal stamps were devoted to the National park of Boukornine Poésie: In 1926 Arthure Pellegrin, historian, composed several poems inspired of the mountain of Bou Kornine Littérature: Various works were inspired by Bou-kornine and its area. We can reach the park by two distinct entries: the first located on the side of Ain Zarga, place more attended; the second on the side of the green country cottage where is arranged écomusée. Écomusée, open in 2003, includes/understands a permanent exposure which presents the biodiversity of the site but also are cultural history. Several arranged paths allow a pleasant discovery of the national park; Teaching path is arranged....; Adventure playgrounds for children as of the surfaces of picnic are arranged on the level of the access of Ain Zarga. A course of health little also to be borrowed from the level of Ain Zarga. |
