Museum with mosaics
The museum of Maktar holds a nice collection of
artifacts showing the
shift from Numidian to Punic to Roman culture at this place. The
Numidian sections contains mainly gravestones dedicated to the god Baal
Hammom. Personally, I found the mosaics most fascinating. Some of them
are in excellent condition.
Practicalities
HOTELS AND ALTERNATIVES
There is one terrible hotel in town. While it is
fairly cheap, you are strongly recommended to spend your night in the
hotel in Siliana instead.
RESTAURANTS AND ALTERNATIVES
Basic restaurants in town, normally limited to serving chicken with
extras. The food is OK, the setting not ideal for romance, and the
prices a bit above what they should be.
NIGHTLIFE
Nothing.
CHANGE MONEY
A few banks in town centre, that will change foreign currencies and give cash if you bring your VISA or MasterCard.
TRANSPORTThere are OK connections with important destinations
like Kairouan, Le Kef, Siliana and Sbeïtla. Choose between buses and
more frequent shared taxis.
