 Located administratively at the level of the Governorship of Nabeul, it park is in fact on the open sea the Mediterranean, accessible by the port from El Haouaria or that of Sidi Daoud, closest. It is the first national park creates in Tunisia by decree n° 77-340 of April 1st, 1977, classified Réserve of the Biosphere, by UNESCO, the same year.

The culminating point of the jebel Bou-Hedma reaches 840 meters.

It includes three principal ecosystems: the jebel, which culminate with 155 meters, the marshes which cover approximately 30 km ² and the lake of approximately 90 km ². The park is an important wetland for the avifauna.

It belongs to the governorship of Jendouba and covers a surface of 2.632 ha. Its creation was officialized by the decree n° 90-907 of June 4th, 1990. The national park represents the forest best preserved mountains of Kroumirie.
